This page includes Jericho’s diet timeline since I adopted him in 2017.
Jericho’s diet is currently a mix of ground raw food and whole prey.
My goal is to phase out ground food. And feed more whole prey and whole chunks of meat, bones, and organs.

April 2022 – Hare Today ground beef and Raw Feeding Miami whole prey quail
I’m still adding back different proteins for variety. So I started a 20-day transition with ground beef on the 7th.
Jericho’s been eating Hare Today since 2019. But he’s never had their beef before.
On April 27th (after beef transition) Jericho crunched on his first whole prey quail leg!
The whole quail are about 6 ounces (170 grams) each. So I cut them into 5-6 smaller pieces.
I’m really impressed with Raw Feeding Miami’s quality and variety. So far Jericho likes everything he’s tried from RFM.
December 2021 – Raw Feeding Miami whole ground quail, ground duck, ground chicken and tripe
Raw Feeding Miami is another excellent raw pet food supplier. They have a lot of variety just like Hare Today.
I decided to buy from RFM because Hare Today raised their price for whole ground quail.
Also, variety is key. Both in proteins that you serve and where you buy them.
From now on I will rotate between the two.
October 2021 – Rodent Pro large mice and Hare Today ground duck
The large mice are about 18-29 grams (almost 1 ounce). And I continued with the same extra-small baby quail as treats.
Portioning out was pretty easy. The mice are very small.
Jericho didn’t quite get it the first time I gave him an adult mouse. Even though I gradually worked up to adult size.
He wanted to play with it!
I’m also introducing ground duck from Hare Today for more protein variety.
July 2021 – Rodent Pro fuzzy mice and extra-small baby quail. Hare Today ground quail.
Still working my way up to adult whole mice. The fuzzy mice are about 4.5-7 grams.
Next, I’m introducing ground quail meat, bones, and organs from Hare Today. And I got whole carcass ground quail to introduce after that.
I’m also working my way up to small mice which are about 7-13 grams.
Plus extra-small baby quail which are about the same size as small mice.
April 2021 – Rodent Pro small fuzzy mice
Jericho has been eating whole carcass ground mouse from Hare Today for a few months.
So I decided to introduce whole prey mice. I get them from Rodent Pro.
I’m starting with the small fuzzy mice. They are only about 3-4 grams.
My plan is to work up to adult mice.
December 2020 – Hare Today whole carcass ground mouse
I’m switching Jericho to whole carcass ground mouse to test for allergies.
He’s never had mouse before.
So I’m going to feed mouse only for a few months. Then slowly add back other proteins.
April 2019 – Hare Today ground raw chicken and turkey
I’m introducing more protein variety. Rabbit is very lean and higher in protein.
So chicken and turkey will help bring up the fat content.
January 2019 – Hare Today ground raw rabbit
I’m learning more and more about raw food processing. Balanced Blends was fine in a pinch.
But they did add a lot of synthetic nutrients back into the food.
I want to find something more along the lines of homemade cat food. So that I could have more control over the ingredients.
I also want to add some protein variety. So I found Hare Today after searching for raw rabbit.
Jericho hasn’t had rabbit before so I’ll start with that.
November 2018 – Balanced Blends ground raw cat food
Unfortunately, Rad Cat was shut down in October 2018.
So I’m in a hurry to find a new raw cat food brand before I run out of my current Rad Cat stock.
I found Balanced Blends. It’s complete and balanced and shipped to my door. Easy peasy.
Jericho is adjusting well to this one too.
Apparently, Balanced Blends stopped sales in March 2021. So it is no longer available.
December 2017 – Rad Cat ground raw food
So I’m realizing that the best of the best is raw cat food.
My cat sitting boss told me about Rad Cat. So I’m starting to offer some of that to THK as a snack.
Jericho absolutely loves it. And is starting to ignore THK. So that makes the transition easy.
October 2017 – The Honest Kitchen dehydrated food
It’s time to upgrade Jericho’s food even more. I have no idea what type of quality the wet canned food is.
So I found The Honest Kitchen.
Their cat food is made with human-grade ingredients. And they can actually prove it.
Jericho is adjusting well to the food.
He ate the dehydrated food. This was back before THK made wet pate-style food.
You can add as much or as little water as you want for your cat’s desired consistency.
THK does have better quality ingredients. However, it is still very high in carbohydrates.
But there are high amounts of carbs in most commercial cat foods. So might as well feed better quality.
You can buy THK on:
September 2017 – Redbarn Naturals wet food
Jericho has adjusted to our home very well and quickly.
He was relaxing on the couch with us the day the foster mom dropped him off.
So I’m starting to transition to better quality wet food.
I’m also getting into reading cat food labels. I’ve had cats my whole life and never knew there were so many rules and definitions for the label!
The best I can find right now is Redbarn Naturals. Not the worst. But definitely not the best.
It looks like it’s not available on their website anymore (2022).
August 2017 – Friskies wet food
We adopted Jericho! He came to me eating Friskies wet food.
Definitely one of the worst cat food brands. But at least he wasn’t eating dry food.
