So unfortunately I just learned that General Mills the cereal and junk food company bought out Tiki Cat, a slightly healthier wet food company, and Fera Pets, a wonderful supportive supplement brand that I used to love.
This actually happened years ago, and I had no idea. So I need to be better about keeping up on news like this. But how disappointing!
So in this video I talk all about this acquisition, my experience and lack of luck with cat food companies, what to feed your cat instead, and an update on Jericho’s food allergies.
Unfortunately, I’ve learned this over and over again with Jericho. The healthier canned food I used to feed him and two raw foods I started him on no longer make cat food. And more recently, Quest had a recall because of low levels of vitamin B1. Very disappointing!
So here’s what to feed your cat instead…

Healthy canned food – Feline Natural on Chewy. I like this product more than others because they actually use organ meats and fewer synthetic supplements compared to other options.

A good alternative to Fera Pets is Wholistic Pet Organics. I use their probiotics and enzymes for Jericho. It’s been very helpful for his food allergies. They don’t have kidney support or other specific supportive supplements. But it’s a good option for now if you need general gut support. Wholistic Pet Organics is on Chewy and Amazon.
Homemade cat food will always be my top recommendation. Either raw or cooked. That’s because you have control over the ingredients and how it’s made.
The easiest way to start (and this is how I started!) is to use a completer premix.
