I formulated two raw cat food recipes using Alnutrin for meat and bone supplement. This supplement makes homemade cat food very easy!
I started Jericho on homemade raw using Alnutrin for meat and bone. He ate this for many years before I started making my own recipes. Now he eats whole prey and raw. I didn’t want to keep using synthetic supplements. But Alnutrin supplement is still a great option for beginners.
You can get most ingredients at the grocery store. And you’ll have to buy the Alnutrin supplement online. But it’s very simple!
These raw cat food recipes are:
- High protein, low carb
- Complete and balanced for adult cats
- Free from grains and gluten

Where to buy meat ingredients
Check your grocery store, Asian market, farmers market, go directly to the farm, butcher, etc. Anywhere you can buy meat!
You can order meat ingredients online if you can’t find them locally. My go-to raw pet food supplier is Hare Today. Hare Today also sells Alnutrin for meat and bone supplements. Or you can order from farms that sell meat for human consumption. Stock up for yourself and your cat!

How to make DIY raw cat food
Please note: the video below shows how I DIY a raw cat food recipe with different ingredients. This video shows the general process of making raw cat food and not these specific Alnutrin recipes.
- All meat in this recipe should be served raw. Practice proper food safety and hygiene while preparing raw foods.
- Wash your hands, utensils, dishes, and surface areas with hot water and soap after handling raw meat.
- Remove bones from thighs. Weigh ingredients using a digital scale based on the recipes above.
- Cut up larger chunks of meat into smaller pieces. Use a food processor or blender to mix all boneless ingredients together.
- Cut chicken wings at the joints (where it bends) so that there are three individual pieces: drum, flat, and tip. Feed bones whole with supervision for dental cleaning benefits. Spread bone feedings out evenly throughout the week. If your cat has dental issues or you don’t feel comfortable feeding whole bones, use a meat grinder to grind meat ingredients together.
- Mix Alnutrin and eggshell powder together with some water, and add this to the meat mix. Mix well.
- Preportion daily servings in sealed containers. Store any portions you will not use within 72 hours in freezer-safe containers and put in the freezer until you need it.
- Thaw raw food in the refrigerator ~24 hours before you need it. If you need to thaw food quickly, put the sealed container of food in a larger dish full of cold water. Do not thaw raw food at room temperature on the counter. Do not use a microwave.
- Serve all juices in the container when you feed.

Please note that cats are very cautious (not picky!) about new foods. Make a plan to transition to any new food slowly.
Use my switch to raw plan if your cat is eating dry and/or wet food right now. It’s important to switch to premade raw before you make DIY. This will help you and your cat get used to feeding fresh food gradually. You can use the same transition plan once you’re ready to switch to DIY.

How much to feed your cat
These recipes are formulated to feed a 10-pound altered adult cat for about 7 days. Feeding amounts vary depending on the individual cat. Each analysis PDF has feeding amount suggestions.
Please adjust the feeding amount according to your cat’s weight, body condition score, and individual needs.
You will have to adjust feeding amounts based on your individual cat. See how much to feed your cat for more instructions.

How to make your own recipes
I used Animal Diet Formulator to create these recipes. However, I would only recommend this formulator for professionals because it requires a monthly subscription.
For beginners who want to make their own recipes, I highly recommend Paws of Prey Cat Meal Formulator. It’s very easy to use, includes a sample recipe, and it’s a one-time payment! Check out how to make your own cat food recipe to see how I make recipes with this formulator.

It is the cat parent’s responsibility to discuss any diet changes with their cat’s veterinarian. This recipe was formulated to AAFCO guidelines for a healthy adult cat weighing 10 pounds.
