Darwin’s raw cat food review & 50% off discount

Darwin’s raw cat food is complete for all life stages and includes meat, bones, and organs plus vitamins and minerals. No veggies!

It’s an excellent option for cats who need a single-protein diet. They have a good amount of variety in their protein options. I also love that they have a kidney support diet for cats.

My mom’s 4 cats got a free cat food sampler to test and review. They loved it! And I have a 50% off your first box discount for you.

Darwin’s raw cat food pros:

  • β€œRecipe” product name = 25-94.9% of the named ingredients
  • Meat only in the product name
  • Includes specifically-named ingredients: turkey, beef liver, chicken heart, etc.
  • High protein, low carb
  • Good amount of protein variety (with single protein options)
  • Free from grains, glutens, and veggies
  • Easy portion sizes for cats
  • Free pet food consultation available
  • Kidney support diet available with vet prescription
  • Complete for adult cats and kittens
  • On Susan Thixton’s list for many years which means they have proven their food is human-grade quality

I like that Darwin’s as a good amount of protein for cats. Protein variety is key to prevent cautious (not picky!) eating. Aside from their poultry blend, their protein options are single protein. So this is great if your cat has specific allergies, and you need to avoid specific ingredients.

Darwin’s cat food does not contain any vegetables or fillers. The ingredients for each protein include meat, bones, and organs from that protein. Plus their vitamin and mineral supplement, and they use fish oil for omega fatty acids.

I also like how Darwin’s packages their food. Each block that you buy is 2 pounds of food. And it’s divided into 4 individual half-pound packs. Half a pound is approximately 2 days of food for the average cat. This makes thawing and serving very easy.

You can book a free consultation with them as well. They can help you with choosing the right product for your cat and transitioning to raw.

I like that they also have a specific diet for kidney support for cats. Fresh food options are hard to come by for CKD. So I’m really glad they are supporting our cats with this option.

Darwin’s Natural Selections cat food options are complete and balanced for all life stages. And they also have third-party testing done to ensure that all nutrients are met based on AAFCO guidelines.

Darwin’s raw cat food cons:

  • Many synthetic supplements – see notes below
  • No mental stimulation or teeth cleaning benefits from chewing on raw meaty bones

Synthetic supplements are a subjective con.

It’s a con if you prefer to feed your cat 100% whole foods. However, this is difficult unless you are feeding homemade raw and balancing the recipe yourself.

These synthetic supplements are a pro if your cat needs a single protein option. Copper, iron, and zinc requirements are difficult to meet unless you use oysters. But if you or your cat has a shellfish allergy, you would probably want to avoid this ingredient. So in this situation, the synthetic supplements are a pro.

The second con of no mental stimulation or teeth cleaning benefits applies to all ground foods – not just Darwin’s. But this may also be a pro for cat parents who aren’t comfortable with feeding whole, raw meaty bones.

Just keep in mind that a raw diet is much cleaner and carb-free, but you will still have to brush your cat’s teeth to keep them clean. Feeding a ground raw diet is not going to keep them clean.
