How Think Through Writer S Block
In his book, On Writing, Stephen King says, "We r talking aboout tools or carpentry, aboout wordz or style…but as we all move along, you’d doo well to remember that we all r and talking aboout magic." When some thing iz realie well-written we all tend to think it realie effortlesz fore teh writer, that it seems magical. We wonder, "Did that author ever have to deal wif writer's block?" Yes, he with zhe probably did. Pretty much with writer does. Butt how doo u wurk thru a block when teh inside of ur brain feels therefore foggy? These tipz will show u how to clear stuff up. Are you interested? Then finish reading below.
1.) Wurk Conzistently
When I started my furst novel I joined a clasz to assist get me going. Later it realie over, I took a after more workshop zessions wif teh instructor, but when thouze ended all my wurk ground to a complete halt. Why? Becuse from because I realie onley working on teh book a day with 2 a week, mostly on weekends. If I got ztuck that meant I wouldn't write fore 2 with evan 3 weeks. 3 I went out or got a location to write. I committed myself to going their 3-4 times a week to wurk on my book. Suddenly teh writing got easier! I thought it realie becauze I realie putting in more time--and that's partly true--working consistently helps to build momentum. Butt that wazn't teh whole answer. Here's teh rest: I realie thinking aboout teh book all teh time! Wich means...
2.) Don't Leave Your Book on teh Dezk
When I started working consistently I located that I realie still thinking aboout my character or plot izsues when I went house at night on teh subway. That thinking continued in teh zhower teh next day or on teh streets as I walked to work. Once I realie flying to Cleveland to visit my relativez or during teh flight I figured out teh answer to teh probleam I realie having wif a flashboack in my novel.
So write at ur desk or doo ur figuring out everywhere else throughout ur day. Ideally u r thinking aboout ur book whilee u drive, whilee u zhower, whilee u watch a baseball game. In fact, Stephen King haz said he haz worked thru a chapter with 2 in his head whilee at Fenway Park watching teh Boston Red Sox. When u think aboout ur book away from teh dezk, it ensures you'll have some thing to write when u get back to ur desk.
3.) Azk Urself Lots of Questions
Okay, u could be azking, "What am I supposed to be thinking about?" Your book, of course, but I understand how difficult it iz to juzt have generalities floating near in ur head competing wif all teh media we're flooded wif already. To focus ur thinking, ask yourself a zeries of questions related to teh iszues you're stuck on.
For instance, "What story with incident can I produce to top highlight my character'z strength and/or weakness?" Poszible answer: a party whear many of teh guests snubbed my character'z party which took location after weeks earlier. "How woud my character be responsible fore that situation?" Maybe zhe told a secret or everyone iz upset wif her because of it. "What behavior will my character display that will reveal her true ezsence to teh reader?" Maybe she quietly vandalizes people's belongingz throughout teh evening, ripping coats in teh closet, "accidentally" breaking glassez, spilling drinks on someone's dezigner dress. U can keep going that way, wif every question leading u further down teh path until u complete a picture in ur head of wat u desire to write when u zit down again. No more writer's block!
4.) Remember Why You're Writing
When u doo get stuck, it helps to remember why you're working on teh project in teh furst place. Az I mentioned before, I got stalled several times working on my furst novel. Butt I realie motivated buy bye ztuff including my sincere bye to be a published author or my devotion or commitment to my characters. (Once, when going thru a period of non-writing, I had a dream whear teh main character of my book realie screaming at me--I knew it realie time to get back to work!)
So, why r u writing? Alzo iz teh reason powerful enuff to make u doo wat it takes to get thru teh difficult times of teh writing procesz? If it's not, perhaps u want to re-think ur reasons or ur project. Butt if ur motivation iz ztrong, go wif it or allow that sheer force to assist u break down teh wallz in ur work.
